3 Ways to Stay Healthy Whilst Traveling

  • December 22, 2016

Going on vacation is always exciting; the thought of the sun’s rays on your skin and having a swim in the ocean before dinner is tantalizing, and the idea that you have a set amount of time away from your everyday stresses even more so.

It’s easy to relax and eat and drink as much as you want whilst you’re on vacation, but it’s important to remember that too much of a good thing might spoil your time away and you’ll end up coming back home feeling worse than when you left.  Here are a few ways you can stay healthy whilst you’re traveling and still have a great time.

1. Plan Snacks for When You’re on the Move

We’re often so busy concentrating on getting to the airport in time and remembering our passport that planning what we’re going to eat during the journey goes out the window.  Although airports have a good selection of food outlets these days, they might be an expensive option if you’re a student struggling to fund your MSN in nursing administration. And, it’s also important to consider serving time if you happen to be running late.

It’s a good idea to be prepared in advance and bring your own healthy travel snacks that can be eaten on-the-go.  Breakfast bars, nuts and sliced or peeled fruit are great options to give you a quick energy boost if time is of the essence and you won’t have to worry about getting them through airport security if you haven’t got time to eat till you get on the plane.

2. Stay Mobile

It might be really tempting to spend every single day of your vacation sat on a sun lounger or on the beach with a good book but your body might actually suffer from a prolonged amount of time sitting still.  This doesn’t mean you have to hit the hotel gym every morning; a few lengths of the pool is a pleasant form of exercise or have a go at a fun beach sport like wind-surfing to get the adrenalin pumping.

If you’re a student and have spent the best part of a year stuck in the university library finishing assignments for your RN to MSN program then your body will no doubt relish some light exercise outdoors.  Tours are a great way to experience the culture of the place you’re visiting without having to do any of the organization and you can pick the one that suits you best; some might entail extensive treks or climbing whereas others simply include leisurely walks.

3. Don’t Ruin a Holiday with an Epic Hangover

When we’re in holiday mode, our first thought is often to indulge ourselves with all the new tastes and flavors our destination has to offer.  This is especially true if we’ve gone all-inclusive because it’s basically like a free bar.  But it’s important to keep in mind how you’re going to feel the next day because if you’re someone who struggles with severe hangovers or gets really bad stomach ache when you’ve eaten too much, the chances are you’re going to waste part of your holiday feeling poorly and this might be a big regret by the end of your stay.

Don’t let the term healthy take over your vacation though, it’s important to use this time to fully relax and enjoy yourself.  These tips are to help you make the most of your holiday time but they aren’t strict rules that need to be followed; make sure you tailor them to your own needs and enjoy a guilt-free cocktail by the pool.
