Holidays and mini-breaks can be the perfect time to try something new. We all lead busy lives and it’s natural to want to unwind. But if you really want to shake off the cobwebs and return to your life with a story to tell, it’s time to try something new! Trying new things can have many benefits for our health and wellbeing. Surviving a new situation and actually enjoying it gives us a confidence boost, especially if we are used to routine. Being in an unfamiliar situation can force us to think on our feet and be proactive in our decisions. This can be helpful if we find we are lacking in motivation. Finally, trying new things is fun! Fun connects us with others and makes us feel more positive and happy about life. It also means we have a great story to tell. There are few things better than impressing friends with stories of our travels when we return. Try any of the below suggestions to make memories that will last a lifetime!
1) Shed Your Clothes
There are often opportunities to get naked on holiday such as skinny dipping on deserted beaches. Try not to giggle, but being naked around others in a platonic environment can be very liberating. In many parts of Europe, topless sunbathing is perfectly acceptable for all ages and body types, for example. In Finland, even public saunas are usually naked, (although often separated for men and women). It may seem embarrassing or even bizarre, but if it is the norm for where you are then it can be good to embrace it. Feeling comfortable in our own skin should be a lifelong goal. Being comfortable naked is a good way to aim for it in literal terms! If you’re heading beach-wards or to a lake, be sure to check their rules and regulations!
2) Take a Private Tour
Guided tours are a great way to take in a new location in a short space of time. It can be easy to miss an important sight or landmark if we are exploring on foot. A passionate guide illuminates some of the major areas but also gives details on culture and history. It’s a great timesaver and ensures we can see all significant spots without hitting our budget too hard. Transport costs and taxis can soon become expensive, unreliable, and even unsafe. Better to invest in a professional company and allow them to handle the organising. Touriocity private tours will even tailor a tour to suit your interests, for example. The tour needn’t be a way to just “tick off” every possible sight. It can be an experience in itself.
3) Visit an Animal Sanctuary
Many animal sanctuaries both at home and abroad have the opportunity to visit and donate. This can be a great opportunity to see beautiful and exotic animals in an ethical environment. Many zoos and other organisations can be a shock to the system for travellers. They are not always subject to the rules and regulations that we would expect. Don’t risk supporting a company that you don’t approve of. Have a heart and head for a sanctuary! The Sloth Sanctuary of Costa Rica is said to be an experience you won’t forget.
