Barcelona: A city of Beauty and Culture

  • June 16, 2015

Barcelona is famous around the world for being home to one of the greatest soccer teams in the world. However, there is much more to this Spanish city than soccer. There are many centuries worth of history, art and culture for you to explore. The beautiful weather that the city is known for will make your trip even more enjoyable. Once you come to this beautiful city and see it for yourself, you will understand why it is one of Europe’s biggest tourist destinations. If you would like to learn more about staying in Barcelona, there are certainly many websites that will be able to give you tips regarding the best places to stay. Here are some examples that prove Barcelona is filled with beauty and culture.

Modernist Park Guell by Gaudi

Antoni Gaudi is one of the most famous and respected artists from Spain. His work has made an unforgettable impact on the country, with several of his larger pieces receiving protection as historically significant sites. The Modernist Park Guell is one of those sites that has been protected so that future generations can enjoy it. The park is widely regarded by many art historians as being the most significant work of Gaudi’s legendary career. While this is strictly a matter of opinion, there is no dispute that the park is a masterpiece than needs to be seen in person in order for it to be truly appreciated. You will be able to find the park on Carmel Hill. This basically means that in order to get to the park, you will either need to spend some money to pay a taxi to drive you up the hill to the entrance of the park, or you can walk up the hill yourself. If you are elderly or have some health problems, you should probably take a taxi, especially if it is hot on that particular day. The entrance fee to the park is five euros. You will find that the fee is well worth it. The park is open on all weekends and holidays.

The Museum of Pablo Picasso

There can be no doubt that during the 20th century, no artist made more of an impact than Pablo Picasso. He was a very prolific artist that produced many works which are now praised by art historians as being masterpieces. The Picasso Museum is the largest single collection of this man’s work.

The Magic Fountain

People who enjoy looking at fountains should definitely make a point of visiting the Magic Fountain during their stay in Barcelona. While the city has a wide variety of fountains, this is by far the most famous and historically significant. 1929 was the year that the Magic Fountain opened to the public. Almost immediately after water began flowing through it, the fountain became a large attraction for the city. The main reason for this is the fact that it is not merely a standard fountain. There is a show that the fountain is capable of putting on for people who stop by. This show is performed four days each week. There are many lights and music that accompany the water. Everything is perfectly synchronized. Seeing the show in person is definitely worth going out of your way. The show is free, which makes it even better.
