Yes this is a real international festival! World Naked Gardening Day on 3 May 2014 encourages all those with green fingers (and not) to embrace all aspects of horticultural activities, whilst in the buff!
Held every year since 2005, World Naked Gardening Day is marked on each first Saturday in May. The day was founded in order to unite naturists in a common hobby and everybody across the world is invited to weed their borders, plant out flowers and sow vegetable seeds whilst naked. The day was intended as a lighthearted affair by the non-profit Body Freedom Collaborative. Its aim is that people from all walks of life will get involved as a mark of acceptance of the human body.
If you don’t fancy frightening the neighbours you can always try a spot of naked gardening inside the safe confines of your own house – why not plant up some colourful gladioli corms for dazzling flower beds this summer, or get your runner bean seeds started under cover, in readiness for fresh summer pickings.
I probably wouldn’t recommend tackling any demanding horticultural tasks today – chores such as hedge trimming and mowing the lawn could be a little risky!
So go on, get involved, what more excuse do you need?
