What’s on in London in October 2013

Cooler autumnal weather may have descended on London, but rest assured the myriad of festivals, events and exhibitions are hot and happening this October!

A great place to start is The Bloomsbury Festival. This free, six day bash, held throughout the central London district of Bloomsbury, within shops, pubs, garden squares and museums will have more than 200 artistic events, something for everyone! The festival runs from 15 to 20 October.

Ready for some great music? On 4 October the Guildhall Symphony Orchestra will perform Beethoven’s ‘Symphony No. 9 in D minor at Milton Court, located at Silk Street, Barbican, City, London, EC2Y 8DT.

Innovative music more your taste? Check out Ether Festival! See mainstream artists such as David Byrne performing along with little-known and more eccentric artists, some of which can be quirky, as when a performance included a cat. Takes place 4 to 19 October, at the Southbank Centre, Belvedere Road, South Bank, London, SE1 8XX.

Much loved, veteran soul singer Lulu will be performing at Under The Bridge, located at Stamford Bridge on the Fulham Road, Fulham, London, SW6 1HS, on Oct 4th. She is coming back to London after more than a decade away from the scene!

Coming to London’s O2 Arena, it’s the ever exuberant Bruno Mars! Hear these singer-songwriters highly original hits on 8 and 9 October. And for late night finishes consider booking a London bed and breakfast close to the O2 venue, which is at Peninsula Square, London, SE10 0BB.

In the Art world, Photomonth is an international photography festival in East London, which runs from 1 October through to 30 November. More than 60 galleries showcase diverse, contemporary photography. Located at Whitechapel Gallery, 77-82 Whitechapel High Street, Tower Hamlets, London, E1 7QX.

Paul Nicklen, Canada’s Wildlife Photographer of the Year in 2012, will be showcased from 1 October through to 1 March 2014, at the Natural History Museum, Cromwell Road, South Kensington, London, SW7 5BD.

Sarah Lucas, a leading sculptor, will have a major solo exhibition at the Whitechapel Gallery. Both iconic and new works can be seen, located at 77-82 Whitechapel High Street, Tower Hamlets, London, E1 7QX. Exhibition runs from 2 October to 2 December.

A UK debut of LA Dance Project, comes to Sadler’s Wells Theatre, Rosebery Avenue, Clerkenwell, London, EC1R 4TN, on Oct 2-4. The company “exhibited the explosive energy that Millepied favours”.

Foodies will enjoy The London Restaurant Festival, running from 1 to 15 October. There will be many events throughout the capital, including sushi and street food. Find it all at The Old Vic Tunnels, Station Approach Road, South Bank, London, SE1 7XB.

Chocolate Week, running from 14 to 20 October celebrates…chocolate!! Enough said! Go to London Film Museum Covent Garden, 45 Wellington Street, Covent Garden WC2E 7BN for your own feast!

Two World Cup Qualifiers will take place during October, at Wembley Stadium, Wembley, London, HA9 0WS. First up is England v Montenegro on 11 October and the second match is on 15 October with England v Poland.
