5 Coolest European Ski Resorts This Winter

  • September 20, 2013
  • Jules

As the weather turns cooler in the northern hemisphere, thoughts turn to the ski season ahead as we check out the coolest (in every sense of the word) ski resorts to be found in Europe.

Obergurgl, Austria

Escape to the beautiful mountains of Austria and explore the perfectly white snow of Obergurgl, a secluded ski resort uninterrupted by the city chaos so that you and your family can enjoy a stress free trip. This resort begins its season in November and goes all the way into May, so there’s multitude opportunities to experience the snowy slopes, boutique bars equipped with panoramic views or just snuggle up to your partner by an open fire!

Courchevel 1850, France

Show off your skiing skills at the grand Courchevel 1850. Like Obergurgl, Courchevel 1850 has a long skiing season, giving you lots of time to experience everything the resort has to offer. The resort is located in a bowl, enabling you to ski into every corner of town. If you would rather snowboard, there are 3 snow parks to choose from for thrice the fun. Other fun family activities include: indoor rock-climbing, paragliding and toboggan runs. Then finish the night off at one of the numerous Michelin-starred restaurants downtown.

Selva Val Gardena, Italy

Enjoy affordable family skiing holidays at the Selva Val Gardena situated in the beautiful Dolomites mountain range of Italy. This resort has tons of options for children including obstacle courses and play areas, but that’s not all. Selva also has multiple ski-tours to explore the slopes. Then after a long day of skiing, you can sit down with a fresh cup of tea and watch one of Selva’s breathtaking sunsets. For adult fun, there are tons of bars and disco’s that you can attend during your stay. And if you get a chance, go into town and see some traditional handicrafts, Selva is well known for its wood-carvings.

Saas Fee, Switzerland

If you haven’t visited Switzerland, winter may be the best time for you to enjoy a little skiing and much more at Saas Fee the most stunning resort in the country. Have fun on the thirteen 4,0000m peaks just seconds from your hotel room. If skiing isn’t your cup of tea, there are many other fun outdoor activities including: ice-climbing, ice-skating or even curling. Then go and relax at the Saas Fee’s own sauna, steam-bath and swimming-pool. Getting hungry yet? Then venture over to the world’s tallest revolving restaurant that gives you great access to the exquisite Alps. If you are traveling with children, maybe think about taking them over to the Bakery museum where they get the chance to make their own baked goods.

Peisey-Les Arc, France

For a quiet and cosy ski vacation away from home then come and stay at Peisey-Les Arcs. Here, you will experience the magnificent mountains of both the Les Arcs and La Plagne ski areas since the resort is placed directly in the middle with multiple chairlifts taking you to and from both locations. Beginners and children’s lessons are also offered just minutes away from the chalets. For even more picture-perfect memories, take a night ride on a horse-drawn sleigh or try dog-sledding.
