Things to do in Fashion Capital Milan

As one of the highly regarded fashion centres of the world if you are planning on traveling to Italy then Milan should be definitely on your list of cities to visit!

When it comes to Milan, your first thought should be haute couture with some of the world’s most fashionable brands such as Dolce & Gabbana, Miu Miu and Missoni all having their headquarters in the city.

You should head to the Quadrilatero d’Oro, The Rectangle of Gold, where you will find all of the fashion boutiques effectively collected into one square so you can spend more time admiring the latest season’s collections and less time walking between the boutiques.

If designer price tags are out of your reach but you still want a piece of Milan fashion then boutiques such as the Corso Como Outlet and Dmagazine Outlet. Both of these offer fashionable pieces at prices you just can’t miss Further to these there is a favourite shop of the locals which is preferred due to its affordability; the Il Salvagente outlet.. Milan is home to one of the world’s oldest shopping centres; the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II which was founded in 1867 and has been home to the flagship store of Prada since 1913.

When you have finished shopping you can then find out more about the important fashion history of Milan, finding out how it became such a world fashion powerhouse. You won’t have to travel far either, it is situated right in the heart of all of the fashion boutiques!  The Milano’s Museum of Fashion and Costume History, which is a relatively new museum takes a look at fashion from previous periods in history and how they have changed to what they are now. Everything you find in the museum down to the furniture and accessories is from pre 1945 giving you a more authentic experience.

Alongside the main fashion capitals of the world Milan hosts an array of fashion events throughout the year, the main one being Milan Fashion Week where the whole city turns to fashion with a series of catwalk shows, exhibitions and other events held during the week with some of these open to the public.

As the home of many women’s designer clothing labels, after exploring the many fashion houses and museums you will soon see why crowds of fashion lovers visit this beautiful city every year.
