When you want to take the family on a holiday, but also want to keep the budget to a minimum, it’s not always easy. One great way to holiday on a budget is to go camping. In the UK, it’s one of the most popular ways to holiday, especially for those with young children who like having plenty of space to play.
However, for some people the idea of camping fills them with a kind of dread, and they’d rather stay home than spend nights under canvas in the great outdoors. Images of trudging to the bathroom block with a torch in the middle of the night and the possibility of getting a rainy week are the two most off-putting aspects of campsite life!
These days, though, there are plenty of ways to have a camping holiday without having to be under canvas. Many caravan parks not only offer pitches for tents and touring caravans and motorhomes, but you can also often rent a static caravan on the site. These can sleep anything from two to eight people, so all you need to do is find one that has enough space for your family. Caravan park owners tend to keep all the static homes renewed or refurbished regularly, so you can expect to find yours will be equipped with all mod cons and extras like a terrace to eat out on. It’s more like having a mini-apartment for the week.
The great thing about camping holidays is that you get to enjoy all the facilities on the campsite and be in an idyllic setting, right by the beach or at the foot of spectacular hills in the countryside. There will often be an indoor pool – great for rainy days – and other sports facilities. And for the kids, entertainment is on tap in the form of many other families also staying on the site, so there are always plenty of other children to play with and make new friends.
If you haven’t tried a camping holiday yet, maybe this summer is the one to give it a try!
