VisitEngland’s campaign for ‘things to do before you go abroad’ has received hundreds of submissions, including suggestions from celebrities. And the full list of 101 top things to do in England is about to be revealed…
In all there are 5 categories; Arts & Culture, Wildlife & Nature, Health & Fitness, History & Heritage and Food & Drink. BBC presenter and keen twitcher Bill Oddie has chosen the Farne Islands in Northumberland as his favourite pick thanks to the diverse birdlife of puffins, shags and kittiwakes. Michelin chef Skye Gyngell has chosen Tintagel Castle in Cornwall, which was rumoured to be the home is legendary King Arthur. And the novelist and violinist Clemency Burton-Hill has selected London’s South Bank as her 101 pick, thanks to the abundance of culture within the galleries, theatres and museums.
Public voting has now closed with over 800 submissions received and the full list of the 101 things to do in England will be revealed on St Georges Day – 23 April 2013. The campaign aims to highlight the sheer diversity of sights and experiences available in England. From ancient castles, rugged beaches, mysterious monuments, deep forests, word-famous gardens, meandering waterways and superb arts and culture – there’s so much going on in England!
