A report highlighting the most expensive destinations in the world has just been released by the Post Office in their annual holiday costs barometer – with some interesting locations included!
The annual report serves to highlight the most expensive and cheapest travel destinations based on the average costs of 8 ‘typical’ tourist items in-resort such as a bottle of suncream and dinner for two people with a bottle of house wine.
Top 10 Most expensive World Destinations
1. Seoul, South Korea
2. Darwin, Australia
3. Auckland, New Zealand
4. Beijing, China
5. Calgary, Canada
6. Jumeirah Beach, Dubai
7. Grand Baie, Mauritius
8. Central Singapore
9. Jamaica
10. Rodney Bay, St Lucia
These destinations are all considered ‘long haul’ and its no great surprise to see destinations such as Dubai, Mauritius and St Lucia here as they are traditional considered luxury destinations.
Of course there’s plenty of travel tips and advice that you can follow to enjoy a cheaper holiday anywhere in the world. Simple things such as staying just outside of the main tourist spots, eating local food (rather than pricey western cuisine) and knowing when to book, all help to keep costs down.
