New York City is a perennial favourite and as well as being the number one destination for American Thanksgiving it was also the number one spot for the 2012 Canadian Thanksgiving weekend too – high praise indeed. As part of the Thanksgiving festivities there is the famous Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in NYC where more than 3.5 million spectators watch over 10,000 parade participants light up the city. This is one of the biggest and most colorful parades in New York City with electrifying musical shows, elaborate floats and exotic dancers.
The McDonald’s Thanksgiving Parade in Chicago, in eighth place on this list, will march down central State Street in exactly the same way as it has done since 1934, making this an important part of Chicago’s history. Tradition is a strong focus with carol singers performing at the Cloud Gate and also at the Christkindlmarket situated in Daley Plaza. And to burn off all those calories after your turkey feast there is the renowned ‘Turkey Trot’ which covers a very healthy 8K.
