Global James Bond Day: How to Live Like Bond

  • October 4, 2012
  • Jules

Friday 5 October 2012 has been declared ‘Global James Bond Day’ to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the very first Bond Film – Dr. No.

It’s hard to believe that the iconic film series is 50 years old already, starting with Dr.No. which was released on 5 October 1962 starring the original Bond, Sean Connery – cue many debates about which Bond actor is the best! Take you pick from Sean Connery, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig.

Fast-forward 50 years and the 23rd James Bond film, Skyfall is about to be released, again with Daniel Craig in the lead role. To celebrate, Visit Britain will also launch a huge film tourism campaign to promote London and the UK based on the Bond lifestyle aspirations. Daniel Craig as 007 of course appeared at the 2012 Olympic Opening Ceremony as he escorted the Queen from Buckingham Palace to the Olympic Stadium.

Fans of Bond fans can participate in various missions such as Scale a London landmark (the O2 arena), Drink like Bond (classic vodka or a gin martini, try a Vesper martini or maybe the new Fleming 89), Become a Bond Girl for a day (at Augill Castle in Cumbria) and Pick your favourite Bond car. There are various activities which have a competitive element with suitably Bond-themed prizes available. Take on one of the 5 prize-missions for a chance to live like Bond! Visit Britain has all the details.

Britain of course has so much to offer from traditional beach resorts, an abundance of World Heritage Sites, fantastic music festivals (mud is obligatory), autumnal beer festivals, stunning landscapes such as the Lake District, stunning architecture such as Highclere Castle and of course a whole capital city packed with attractions, history and culture. Scotland is buzzing too with the annual Edinburgh Tattoo and Festival Fringe as well as a unique heritage and culture.
