If you are interested in visiting Thailand for a trip or special vacation then you will want to know what Thailand is most famous for. Located in southern Asia it is known for great eats, martial arts, beaches, and many temples. Thailand also has many islands that are well known that have numerous resorts for tourists. Thailand is also a fantastic place for watersports and boat trips around the stunning islands.

If you have ever eaten Thai food you’ll know it’s a rewarding experience. Many of the meals are comprised of noodles, your choice of meat and seasonings which can be spicy or sweet or both. It is become very popular that numerous cooking shows and cookbooks have been created to help you recreate the taste at home.

There are also many islands that make up the country of Thailand. One of the most famous is Phuket Island. Many hotels have huts and sites where you can stay right on the beach lying on your sleeping pad for a hammock and feel the breeze from the ocean. Thailand also has much more than just beaches to offer. To the north you will find Thailand’s fascinating and beautiful hill country. As Buddhism is the main religion in Thailand they have many temples and statues that that encompass the country. Some are within the major city of Bangkok. Many of the statues are of monks.

Muay Thai is a form of martial arts that was originated in Thailand. It is a combination of kicking, punching, and fighting. You can take classes based upon this art form. To truly master it will take patience and many years of practice. Many extreme fighters use Muay Thai as the basis of their training.

On December 26, 2004 tragedy struck Thailand. It was during this time that an earthquake occurred in the Indian Ocean and then a subsequent tsunami hit Thailand. It was considered to be one of the greatest natural disasters in modern times. According to official records over 4,800 people died as a result. An outpouring of help came from all over the world to aid it.

Bangkok is an international city and the capital of Thailand. There is plenty to do and see. If you want to go shopping you can do so with a tuk tuk driver who will transport you to any location. Another option that you can do is to take a ride on an elephant or ride a step through bike to see the city’s ever expanding nightlife. There are many hotels and resorts where you can get a simple massage or play a round of golf.

Thailand‘s beauty cannot be compared to anywhere else. They have pristine beaches and history that predates modern civilization. They have exotic cuisine as well as temples, resorts, shopping and more. The people are friendly and should you decide to plan a trip make there it can be hard choosing the best places to visit during your stay.

Celebrate Khao Phansa in Thailand

Visit Thailand in August for the Khao Phansa candle festival. It’s a great time that celebrates the beginning of the Buddhist monks three month period where they do not leave their monastery. It is their lent period and it is important to note that alcohol is not permitted. Before visiting, it is important to pack for rain since it will most likely rain the entire time.

There is also an event before the candle festival in Tung Si Muang that helps to prepare. On the day of the event, candles are placed on floats that are decorated and sent all around the city. There are girls dancing around them with beautiful traditional costumes. The candle is also exciting to see lit. This candle will remain lit during the entire three months.

The rainy months are a great time to visit this town. It is a festive time that celebrates when the monks would visit the monastery during the time of Buddha. Buddha instructed the monks to stay inside so that the people could plant and harvest without the monks walking on their fields. It is a sacred period that should be experienced in Khao Phansa.
