Take a roadtrip on the Great Ocean Road

  • June 15, 2012

Australia is an amazing island country, which is home to the famous scenic route, The Great Ocean Road. One can expect a heap of picturesque locations, geographical diversity, heritage attractions and fun adventures and activities throughout the entire trip. Iconic surf breaks, waterfalls, river kayak, the awesome scenes within the Grampian Ranges and the 12 Apostles are the salient features of this road trip. It takes around 4 hours to reach 12 Apostles by the Great Ocean Road, which are located in the west of Melbourne city.

Although, there are many entry points, but Torquay town is considered as a gateway to the Great Ocean Road. The road between Torquay and Warrnambool, which is located at the South end, is one of the most stunning coastal drives in the world. A road trip to the Great Ocean Road is also a perfect outing for the family particularly for the children.

The Fun4Kids festival has become the identity of Warrnambool, which is usually held in July every year. Further, there are attractions like Surf World Surfing Museum Torquay, Portland Maritime Discovery Centre and Portland Powerhouse Motor and Car Museum, and all of them can be visited during this exciting Great Ocean Road trip.

This trip also offers many fantastic shopping opportunities from where one can shop different kinds of local handicrafts and souvenirs from open markets stalls and small niche boutique stores. The coastal villages of Lorne, Port Fairy and Apollo Bay are known for having outlets that attract all visitors. Moreover, travellers can not dare to ignore the intriguing weekend markets which are held in Bellarine Peninsula and Geelong.

However, one should always remember that this route is very crowded during peak traveling season. This hilly road also remains very breezy and you should devote enough attention to your driving.
