PureTravel are excited to announce their 2011 travel writing competition in association with Geographical Magazine and invite travelers from across the world to share their most memorable Travel Encounter. Was it meeting a Sadhu in Kathmandu or a Masai in Tanzania? An annoying policeman or over-officious customs official? Perhaps it was a beautiful woman or handsome hunk on a deserted tropical beach. A baby elephant, friendly puppy or aggressive seagull?
How to enter
Travel encounter submissions can be made by email in 350-750 words along with the entrant’s name, e-mail and telephone number by Monday 31st October 2011. All entries will be posted on the PureTravel website. The travel writing entries must be original work as copied work will not be considered and ensure all entries include a title.
Ten articles will then be selected by a panel and these pieces will be open for public voting until Wednesday 30th November 2011. The three most popular will then be judged by a professional travel writer and the winner announced on Friday 9th December 2011.
Competition prizes
The travel writing competition winner will receive either £1,000 or US$1,500. The 2010 travel writing competition winner R Bass confirmed receipt of the winner’s cheque and wrote to us “The PureTravel competition has given me the opportunity to finally visit Italy – a travel dream come true!” In 2011, that could be you!
The winning article will also be published in “Geographical” magazine, the official magazine of the Royal Geographical Society. Two runners-up will also receive a year’s subscription to “Geographical” magazine.
All eligible entries will be posted on the PureTravel website. Entrant’s names will be published with the articles, please advise if this is to be withheld. Please note that the email/phone number is for our use only and will not be published online.
The prize money could be spent on an amazing travel experience anywhere in the world. Visit Rwanda in Africa and visit the captivating gorillas in their natural habitat. Explore Argentina in South America and sample world class local wine and party hard in Buenos Aires. Or maybe experience a real back to nature trip to Borneo, trekking up Mount Kinabalu or stay in a longhouse hanging out with traditional tribes!
