The country of Ethiopia in Eastern Africa is hoping to increase its tourism industry according to a recent announcement. The plan is to develop the tourist infrastructure and attract more worldwide visitors including people from China, India and Russia.
Ethiopia has a population of 80 million and is one of the poorest nations in the world. In 2008 Ethiopia, called the ‘Horn of Africa’, had 400,000 tourists. In 2009 there are predicted to be 500,000 visitors and Ethiopia could see 5 million travelers annually within five years.
