Culture, History, Architecture & Monuments - One of the reasons to arrange a Tajikistan holiday is because of its rich culture and spectacular monuments. Tajikistan emerged as an independent state in 1991. The country was known as the part of the Persian Empire and that is one of the reasons that there are monuments that depict Persian architecture. Also, an amalgamation of Sogdian or Zoroastrian civilization along with Hindu, Christian, and Buddhist civilizations is fascinating to explore.

Walking, Hiking & Trekking – Walking, hiking and trekking opportunities are available in Tajikistan and a lot of visitors are keen to explore the country in this way. For trekking, you can visit the famous Silk Road, which offers good opportunities for trekking. Trekking trips are usually arranged from Samarkand. For mountaineers, Pamir Mountains present some of the very best peaks along with the highest. There are peaks with different complexity levels, so climbing is suitable for all abilities. There is a great combination of rivers with different difficulty levels, which range from class 2 to 3, such as Upper Zerafshan River to class 4 to 5, such as Fann River. When to Go

One of delights of Tajikistan is that the adventures can be enjoyed throughout the year. However the best time to visit id during autumn, from September to November and spring, which is from April to June.

For mountaineering, then arrange your holiday in September, which is the best month to explore the Pamir Mountains.

For rafting, a good time to visit is between April to May or from September to October. These are the best times to start paddling in the Upper Zerafshan River.

It also worth bearing in mind that temperatures can vary between 13°C and can become as high as 33°C, during the seasons, so do remember to pack accordingly.

    Culture, History, Architecture and Monuments

    The Tajiks and Persians are considered to have the same values and culture, although they speak a slightly different language. The country is a multilingual nation with Tajiki spoken by more than 5 million people.

    The culture of Tajikistan has undergone many evolutions. Today, cities like Bukhara and Samarkand are no longer in Tajikistan and Dushanbe is the capital city. Khujand, Panjakent, Kulob and Istaravshan are some of the other main urban centers.

    Tajikistan has an amazingly rich history that has had an impact on its architecture and monuments. The huge statue of Lenin is a perfect example of Soviet influence. There are also monuments representing different empires that existed in Tajikistan. All cities of Tajikistan offer architectural wonders that will ensure your Tajikistan tour is memorable.

    The Nurek Hydroelectric Dam is worth mentioning as it is the tallest artificial dam in the world. Dushanbe, which is in Hissar Valley, offers an amazing synagogue, which was built during the nineteenth century. A Russian church near the Tajikistan Unified Museum can also be found in Dushanbe. All these monuments offer wonderful architectural designs that will be sure to fascinate. There are also other regions like Khorugh, Qurghonteppa and Khujand that offer a great variety of monuments and historical sights.

    Walking, Hiking and Trekking

    Tajikistan is a haven for mountaineers with plenty of places for walking, hiking and trekking. Rock climbing is also popular in Tajikistan because of the availability of small peaks. However there are also large peaks, the largest being Peak Somoni, which is the highest mountain in the country and is situated in a mountainous province known as Gorno-Badakhshan. Peak Somoni is one of the Pamir Mountains, which are listed as one of the world’s highest mountains. This peak was discovered during the Tajik Complex Expedition in 1932. Since then, it’s luring people from all over the world who are engrossed in mountaineering.

    The elevation level of Peak Somoni is 7,495 meters, which offers a challenge, so ensure you are well prepared. There are different routes with different skill levels that can be used by mountaineers. If you are looking for the most popular one, then opt for the Borodkin route.

    In addition you can also go up Peak Korzhenevskaya, which is the third highest peak of Tajikistan. This peak is about 13km from Peak Somoni. As well as these peaks, you can also enjoy Alpine climbing. Try the Fann Mountains as there are as many as a hundred spectacular peaks, all with different altitudes Tajikistan really does have a wonderful choice of activities for mountaineers.

    Hiking tours are also available in Tajikistan. For hiking, you can start from a village known as Dipshar. It will take around 5 to 6 days to get to Moskvin Meadow. In Moskvin Meadow, there is a base camp that can be accessed through a helicopter. This base camp will help you climb Peak Somoni from the most popular route known as Borodkin Route.

    Skiing and Rafting

    There are also other adventurous activities to indulge in. Tajikistan adventure holidays will help you fulfill your desire for white water rafting. There are some quick flowing rivers that are perfectly suited for rafting, which are suited for those with previous experience. The Upper Zerafshan River is the best place to start your quest.

    This is a good option to begin with as there are only few gorges, but there are quite a few class 3 to 4 drops. The point that is in proximity with Revomugk village is the best point to start your adventure. Aside from this river, the upper Yaghnob River is also considered as one of the best rivers for grades 4 to 5 expedition. Moreover, there are some other rivers like Iskander River and Fann River where rafting can be really exciting.

    You can also enjoy skiing on your Tajikistan holiday. For skiing, you must travel to Takob, which is a ski resort. Dushanbe is the capital of Tajikistan, and Takob is about 100km away. This ski resort attracts a lot of visitors who all enjoy the amazing outdoor recreational activities in Tajikistan.
