Discover Dublin and enjoy the craic

Dublin is a hugely popular city break destination, with so much going on such a short distance away and a lack of language barrier for us Brits (although the accent can be a little tricky at times!) there’s plenty of reason to put Dublin on your list of city destinations.

Obviously Dublin Castle is a well-known tourist attraction and everyone knows about the Guinness, so let’s have a look at some of the less well-known things to do. Just book up your holiday package – firms like Teletext have good deals for Dublin – and have a look at our list…

Dubh Linn Gardens

Dublin Castle is typically packed full of tourists and tickets are not cheap, yet hidden behind it – unbeknown to most visitors – is the beautiful Dubh Linn Gardens. Locals come here to enjoy their lunches or a lazy afternoon in the beautiful surroundings, and it’s also the site of the original dubh linn – ‘dark pool’ – which gave the city its name.

Kilmainham Gaol

A notorious prison in the nineteenth century, Kilmainham Gaol is more than just an old jail, however; it is a museum of the history of Ireland with enthusiastic tour guides who really bring the characters and struggles of the country to life.

Experience Gaelic Games

The sporty types should not miss out on the chance to try their hand at some uniquely Irish games such as hurling and Gaelic football. Expert tuition and a family-friendly atmosphere mean its suitable for all ages – and skill levels!

The Irish Dance Party

For a true taste of good Irish craic then head along to the Irish Dance Party. You’ll be given lessons on three classic Irish dances and then be given the chance to put your moves to the test – and have a good-humoured laugh at those who are struggling to keep in time!

The Little Museum of Dublin

Forget the big museums and their big draughty rooms – the Little Museum of Dublin is cosily set in a beautiful Georgian townhouse. A surprising amount is fitted into such a small space, and the in-depth knowledge of the guides means a tour of the exhibits last for an enthralling hour.

Loft market

If you want to get your shopping fix away from the high-street chains, investigate Loft Market in Temple Bar. It’s a hive of activity in the style of a New York Fashion market, with plenty of art, jewellery and vintage clothing to discover.
