Cheapest World Destinations Revealed

  • February 9, 2013
  • Jules

The Post Office has just released their annual worldwide holiday costs barometer which highlights the top 20 cheapest travel destinations right now – with some surprising inclusions!

Once again the popular annual ‘barometer’ is a reliable indicator of the best priced destinations in the world. The report compares the costs of popular tourist items such as dinner for two people, suncream and drinks such as coffee and wine.

Thanks to the strength of sterling (GBP), more flight availability, especially on the low-cost carriers and actual costs within the locations, there are some great bargains to be had right now. Holiday bargain-hunters will be keen to learn of the best value hotspots from the 42 destinations included in the survey. And first place is a tie!

Top 20 Cheapest World Destinations

1= Costa del Sol, Spain
1= Southwest Sri Lanka
3. Prague, Czech Republic
4. Bali, Indonesia
5. Hoi An, Vietnam
6. Sunny Beach, Bulgaria
7. Algarve, Portugal
8. Cancun, Mexico
9. Budapest, Hungary
10. Marmaris, Turkey
11. Cape Town, South Africa

The Spanish Costas have reduced their prices across the board, making Spain number one on the annual list for the very first time. The Costa del Sol includes the well-known resort towns of Malaga, Torremolinos, Fuengirola and Marbella. Although prices have risen in Sri Lanka, it is still a strong contender for holiday hotspot of the year, and ties with Spain in number one position. Dining out in Spain is reported to be half the cost it was five years ago.

And in case you wondered where the Top 20 most expensive world destinations are, take a look!

Thanks to the Post Office for the details.
