First Timers Guide to Visiting Las Vegas

  • October 27, 2025
  • Jules

This casino-filled destination is truly in a league of its own, which means there are things which first time travelers will understand only when they reach Las Vegas.

Here are some tips we have gathered for new visitors to Sin City, which can make their experience all the more better. You can thank us after the trip.

When to go to Las Vegas

Generally speaking, going to Las Vegas on weekends will be more expensive than on week days. Also expect to pay a premium during sporting events and festivals.

Keep your trip short

Most people travel here for the party atmospher, and we don’t blame them. A couple of nights of letting loose and indulging in good food and you will be ready to head home. So just consider a quick 3-4 days trip.

Getting around

Use cabs sparingly, as not only are they very expensive, they move super slowly because of the heavy traffic. The city’s free tram system or the monorail may be a better option.

Stay in the middle of the Strip

While downtown Las Vegas may feel appealing with its laid-back atmosphere, being in the middle of all the action is worth it, despite the high price factor. If you are lucky, you may even get an upgrade.

Top things to do in Las Vegas:

Visit a nightclub

As the Entertainment Capital of the World, there is no dearth of things to do in Sin City. Las Vegas nightclubs on the Strip are known for their world-class DJs and performers.

Catch a superstar set at Zouk Nightclub at Resorts World Las Vegas or Tao Nightclub at the Venetian Resort Las Vegas to dance the night away.

Walk through different resorts:

It is well worth walking through the different resorts to see all the sights, from replicas of Venice and Paris to vowing visitors with fountains. Vegas is made for strolling with super-wide sidewalks and pedestrian bridges and outdoor escalators.

Appreciating the eclectic decor and themes of the resorts is a part of the Vegas experience. A total must for newcomers and veterans alike is the Strip. The place is constantly evolving with classic casinos and new restaurants and shops.

Don’t forget Fremont Street

The Fremont Street is the life of downtown Las Vegas. Here every evening its arch steel canopy is transformed by a sound and light show, lit up by 13.5 million synchronized LEDs.

Moreover, this part of the city is in the middle of a renaissance with classy restaurants, costing much less than those on the Strip, some with rooftop pools and large HD-screen TVs.

Grab a ticket to a show

One thing which will catch your attention on your first trip to Las Vegas will be the city’s shows which are advertised in the baggage claim area of the international airport.

From music, magic to comedy and many things in-between, it will be difficult to pick one or two during your stay. Among your picks should be Cirque du Soleil, a presentation synonymous with Las Vegas.

Through the decades, this Canadian-run entertainment company has specialized the shows with their artistic flair, customized tunes and immersive experiences.

Break from the buzz

If you need a break from the glitz and glamour, there are great outdoor activities to take part in. Consider visiting the Red Rock Canyon Conservation Area or the Ice Age Fossils State Park, both great places.

Finally, with so much to see and do, it is a good idea to always have a plan for what you want to see and do in Las Vegas, especially since this is your first time to the city.
