Well it’s Eurotrash Eurovision time once again! It comes round quicker every year and fortunately our resident Eurovision expert Paul is on hand with his hot 2009 predictions.
Update: Looks like Paul predicted it right – well done Norway for winning!
Top 5 Tips
Norway – The elf-like Alexander Reebok sings ‘Fairytale’ – He is multi-talented and wrote both the lyrics and the music to his up-beat song and he even plays the violin! He was born in Belarus so Norway will be hoping for their douse points as well as top marks from their neighbours.
Greece – The muscular and rather good looking Sakes sings ‘This Is Our Night’ – Well it certainly could be his night! He came third in 2004 and co-hosted the contest in 2006, so has a good Eurovision pedigree.
Turkey – The beautiful Hardies sings ‘Dum Tek Tek’ which loosely translates as ‘Boom Bang a Bang’ – This has a middle-eastern hint to it with lots of gyrating hips… and remember Lulu won in 1969 with a song called ‘Boom Bang a Bang’.
Armenia – Inga and Anush two sisters sing ‘Jan Jan’ – This is the most ethnic sounding song in the competition with excellent vocals and they both wear Armenian national costume on stage with a big deep blue Cossack hats on their heads and woolly boots on their feet… they could be dripping with sweat under the stage lights, however we could all be doing the Jan Jan dance if they win – good outside bet!
Azerbaijan – AySel and Arash sing ‘Always’ – This is one of the most upbeat songs in the whole competition sung by a youthful boy/girl duo similar to Dollar!
Top 5 Worst
Czech Republic – Gipsy.CZ sing the worst song in the whole competition ‘Aven Romale’ – Gipsy wears an outfit similar to Superman (although his is red!) and he looks like the Mr. Muscle guy. The song has no tune and the Czech Republic have already come last twice and I think this will be the third nil points.
Serbia – Marko Kon & Milaan sing Cipela – Where to start with this song, it starts with a man on an accordion and then Marko appears with a hair style like he has just been plugged into the mains! It is catchy in a very annoying way but I don’t think will make it pass the semi-final stage.
Bulgaria – Krassimir Avramov sings ‘Illusions’ – Well this is incredibly bad, a mixture of pop and opera, with no tune and poor staging. One of his backing singers has the most hair I have ever seen on someone’s head! The promo video showed bare breasts, they are nothing but liberal in Bulgaria!
Latvia – Intars Busulis sings ‘Probka’ – This is a very rock number sung by one of Latvia’s biggest stars however the song is all about bad roads…! An absolute shocker.
Belgium – Copycat sings ‘Copycat’ – An Elvis impersonator sings about the great star but in a detrimental way… any Elvis fan will be very insulted by this tasteless piece of rock-a-billy.
