Simple Things to do Before Traveling to Make Your Life Easier

  • August 19, 2024
  • Jules

Every year, millions of people travel to see new destinations, experience different cultures and try the cuisine of the country they are visiting. Travelling is a luxury that is enjoyed by many and is something that you’ll look forward to, as soon as you decide you are going away.

Once you have booked your trip away, the countdown will begin and as the months approach, there are some simple things you can do beforehand to make your life a lot easier. These include planning your money – if you are going from the US to the UK, you may need to think about moving money from US to UK. Making sure you have your travel insurance sorted is very important and so is organising any transfers that you may need.

Below are four simple tips for things to do before travelling to make your life easier.

Travel Insurance

You should never go abroad without having travel insurance. Travel insurance is so important as it covers you for any essentials, should something unfortunate happen when you are away. If you need medical attention, your travel insurance will cover this. If you lose your phone or tablet when away, the gadget covered by your travel insurance will cover you. When getting your insurance, run multiple quotes to ensure you get the best price possible – hopefully, you don’t need to use your insurance when you are away.

Transfers

Getting your transfers sorted as soon as possible will take off a lot of stress and you can save some money by booking in advance. Depending on where you are going, you can organise a private chauffeur to pick you up, a taxi company, hire a car from a car rental firm or use public transport. Just like your travel insurance, it’s worth reaching out to a selection of transfer operators to ensure you are getting the best price.

Booking Excursions

Another tip that when done sooner will save you money is booking your excursions. Often, providers will offer you a small discount by booking with them in advance rather than on the day. By booking in advance you will also avoid the disappointment of a tour you want to do selling out – some tours can be extremely popular and have limited numbers, such as whale watching or skydiving (if you are an adrenaline junkie).

Organising your money

Have you considered how you are going to pay for things when you are in the country you are visiting? A lot of people will opt to have a dedicated card, which has a good exchange rate that they can use – this can either be a credit card or a debit card, whatever you prefer. Alternatively, you may want to go down the route of cash, but first check how accepted cash is, as a lot of countries have turned contactless.

What tips would you recommend to someone going away? Is there anything in our guide that we are missing? Let us know in the comment box below, we look forward to hearing from you.
