11 Best Places to Visit During Autumn

  • October 18, 2023
  • Jules

There are advantages to traveling in every season, but autumn has a certain charm that makes every journey at this time of year unforgettable. Travelers from around the globe travel in the fall season to enjoy the cool weather, scenic landscapes, and relaxed atmosphere. September through November are ideal for sightseeing since fewer people will visit the beaches and mountain towns. In addition to fewer crowds, traveling in the fall may save money on airfare and lodging.

Whether you’re looking to see your go-to vacation area in a new light or enjoy a quiet escape from the crowds this fall, here is a list of stunning locations that are at their finest in the shoulder season and can be found worldwide.

Stowe, Vermont

It’s no wonder that fall is one of the busiest tourist seasons in Stowe; the city’s foliage is a sight to see. Residents and visitors alike will enjoy the neighborhood’s stunning display of color. Charming traditions include day trips to Smuggler’s Notch, hikes to old-covered bridges, and strolls through local artisan fairs and farmer’s markets.

Telluride, Colorado

Telluride, Colorado, is a picture-perfect mountain town with everything you might want for a fantastic fall vacation. As the temperatures drop and the leaves begin to turn, a hike through the mountains is the perfect way to take in the season. Enjoy the crisp air and beautiful landscape as you walk among the changing leaves, ride your bike along scenic byways, or cast a line in one of the numerous rivers and streams.

Also, there are some great festivals and other events to check out in this mountain town. Telluride caters to a diverse range of visitors. If you’re into art, visit any number of exciting museums and studios showing the works of notable artists from all around the globe. If you like movies, the yearly film festival is a must-attend event.

Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

Cabo San Lucas, located at the tip of the Baja California Peninsula, is a popular tourist destination. Famous for its cliffs, clear blue waters, white sand beaches, and kind locals, this Mexican vacation spot is a popular draw for travelers. The fall time is ideal for a trip to Cabo San Lucas due to the pleasant temperatures, peaceful beaches, sound surfing waves, and plenty of restaurants providing delicious, locally sourced cuisine.

Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, is a great place to spend the fall for several reasons. It is still possible to go scuba diving from a professional boat, snorkel for the first time, dive with sharks for an adrenaline rush, sail a yacht across the clear waters, and catch supper with the help of a local fishing business. If you want to come here to see once-in-a-lifetime events, the fall is the best time to do it.

Cabo celebrates its independence in September, and in October, the Bisbee Black and Blue Tournament takes place, a magnificent event with thousands of dollars in cash awards for the victor. One of the most colorful and stunning celebrations ever, the Day of the Dead celebration takes place in this Mexican vacation town throughout November.

Big Bear, California

Between the middle of October and the beginning of November, Big Bear Lake becomes a sea of gold, scarlet, amber, and yellow. The changing colors of the aspens, maples, and oaks along the hiking paths create a mystical atmosphere, and the Village seems like a scene from a postcard that comes to life with its autumnal decorations, carved wooden animals, and twinkling lights. Tour companies even provide customized sightseeing tours at this exceptional time of year.

Anguilla

The Eastern Caribbean island of Anguilla is beautiful and exciting. Fall is a lovely time to visit Anguilla because of the weather and activities available. With fewer people looking to travel in November, you may get great deals on plane tickets and hotel rooms.

Popular in October are outdoor pursuits like kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding and indoor pursuits like seeing Anguilla’s notable historical sites like the Wallblake House and the Heritage Collection Museum. Anguilla in the autumn may be perfect for you if you’re looking for a low-key vacation.

Port Aransas, Texas

If you want to visit Port Aransas, do it in the fall. You’ll find that September through December is your new favorite time of year since the humidity drops and the temperatures are still pleasant enough for a beach getaway.

Early autumn is the best time to visit the beach and enjoy swimming in the waves, practicing your boogie-boarding abilities, lounging on the sand, reading a book beneath a bright umbrella, and basking in the perfect weather. You may plan a day trip to St. Joe’s Island to collect stunning shells.

Anna Maria Island, Florida

Anna Maria Island is the perfect destination to spend beautiful autumn days at the beach. To avoid the crowds of summer tourists and the mayhem of winter break, consider planning your trip for the fall, which is reportedly the “off” season.

Temperatures decrease, but some days, the water is still swimmable, giving you the beach feel without the masses of people. Manatee Public Beach and Coquina Beach are likely to have a lively scene due to their proximity to nearby restaurants, beach cafés, and shopping. However, you may always go another path if you’d prefer to simulate a more remote island setting.

Bermuda

Bermuda in the autumn is like extending your summer vacation by a few months. Outdoor events may take place at temperatures between 75- and 85-degrees Fahrenheit. Your next trip should include some fantastic options available at this unique spot. In the fall, you may participate in various celebrations, from food festivals to free community events, gombey dances, and international athletic events.

You can explore Bermuda’s blue waters in many ways, including by boat, helmet diving, or jet skiing. The island has six world-class golf courses, and professional golf instructors are available for private lessons.

Napa Valley, California

As the weather cools and the leaves turn color, Napa Valley is flooded with visitors. Popular spots for seeing the autumn foliage in Napa Valley include the vineyards along Silverado Trail and Highway 29, the communities of Yountville and Rutherford in the valley bottom, and treks in the Bothe-Napa Valley State Park and Oat Hill Mine Trail hills to the east and west of the valley, respectively.

Tours of nearby vineyards and harvest festivals are available. To see the area from above, you may take the Napa Valley Wine Train or book a ride in a hot air balloon.

Kauai, Hawaii

Kauai has all you need to fully appreciate the autumn season, from exploring the island’s many beaches to relaxing in front of breathtaking vistas. It’s a little island covered with lush vegetation, and you can stroll across it.

If you visit Kauai, take advantage of the Maha’ulepu Heritage Trail. On this isolated coastal hike, you’ll see limestone structures, rugged terrain, and dune cliffs—all home to diverse marine life off the shore of Kauai. Water erupts from the ocean floor via blowholes in rock at Spouting Hole Park, another must-see attraction. Shaved ice, open spaces, and seats facing the ocean make this the perfect place to take in a breathtaking sunset.

San Diego, California

This city, hidden inside the limits of southern California, is a perfect getaway for outdoor enthusiasts. San Diego, known for its unending beach days, outdoor activities, and beautiful boating adventures, uniquely embraces autumn. Beach days are available, falling leaves, and apple cider-filled afternoons. San Diego has entertainment for everyone during the fall season, from baseball to surfing contests, annual festivals, fairs, and diverse cultural entertainment. In addition, you can enjoy fall activities such as hiking, surfing, and Halloween celebrations.

Some attractions around San Diego in the fall are Oktoberfest celebrations, the San Diego Zoo Safari Park Autumn Festival, and the Coronado Island Film Festival.
