5 Tips for Stress-Free Ferry Travel

Ferries can be a great way to travel; they’re often more affordable than flying, and they offer beautiful coastline views. However, you should know a few things before boarding a ferry. This blog post will discuss five tips for making your ferry trip as enjoyable as possible.

  1. Check the Schedule for Ferries

As anyone who has ever taken a ferry knows, there is nothing worse than missing your boat. That’s why it’s always important to check the schedule before setting off on your journey. If you’re worried about being on time, you can set the alarm on your phone. There’s always the possibility that the ferry will be delayed, but at least you’ll be there waiting for it. If you plan on traveling across northern European nations, a Dover Dunkirk Ferry is a great and affordable option.

  1. Arrive 30 Minutes Early At the Very Least

Ferry travel can be a great way to see the sights and get from place to place, but arriving early is essential. At the very least, try to arrive 30 minutes before your scheduled departure. This will give you time to find your way to the ferry terminal, buy your ticket, and relax before boarding. If you happen to arrive early on a busy day, it’s always better to have some extra time to wait in line than to miss your ferry altogether.

  1. Carry Food and Drinks With You

If you’re planning to take a ferry ride, it’s always good to bring your food and drinks. Bring ready-to-eat and spill-proof snacks that can be easily stored in your luggage. Avoid bringing perishable foods such as dairy products, fish, and meat since they would require refrigeration. Remember to carry plenty of water to keep yourself hydrated throughout the boat ride. Bringing your own food and drinks will save you money and ensure that you have something to eat if the ferry doesn’t have a cafeteria or restaurant.

  1. Bring a Jacket or Blanket

Even if you’re traveling during the summer, it’s always good to bring a jacket or blanket on a ferry ride.  Remember that the temperature can drop once you’re out on the water, and some of the indoor areas in most ferries are heavily air-conditioned. If you’re not in proper clothing, you might feel cold and uncomfortable.

  1. Spend Your Time Wisely

Depending on your destination, ferry rides can be long, and it’s important that you’re well-equipped to pass the time. While scrolling through your phone might seem like a great idea, it is unproductive and can cause you to feel lethargic. Explore the ferry and check if there are facilities that interest you. If traveling with family, consider bringing easy-to-carry board games or playing cards. You can also read a good book or listen to soothing music. Whatever activity you choose, remember to be mindful of other passengers and behave appropriately.

Riding a ferry can be an enjoyable and relaxing experience, but it’s important to be prepared for some of the potential challenges. By following these five tips, you can make your ferry trip as smooth as possible.
