When In Sydney: A Food Adventure Guide

  • April 5, 2022
  • Jules

If you’re an avid traveler, perhaps, one of the cities on your must-visit list is Sydney. Sydney is the largest and most populous city on the southeast coast of Australia, famous for the Sydney Opera House and the Harbour bridge.

Exploring Sydney

There are so many things to do and places to see in Sydney, not to mention the culture that is so rich and inspiring. So, consider booking guided Sydney tours to have a full day of a planned itinerary, so you’re sure not to miss out on the best of Sydney.

Getting around Sydney is not challenging with its modern and efficient public transportation. But to see the mesmerizing beauty of the city, it’s best to take ferries and harbour cruises. You can get a beautiful shot of the Sydney opera house amidst the golden sunset from that vantage point.

Or perhaps, if you’re the type who wants to skip the touristy spots or prefer a little spontaneity in your adventure but still want to get the most out of exploring the city’s rich culture, you can opt for last-minute specials to give you flexibility in your schedule and itinerary. After all, the best experiences are often unplanned and spontaneous. You can check out Last Minute Day Tours for last-minute specials offerings.

Another way to experience and truly immerse yourself in this beautiful city is through food. Sydney is packed with food that represents its vibrant and rich culture, and you’ll not run out of choices to try. So, if you’re a foodie, make sure not to skip these food adventures:

  • Explore The Best Viking Cuisine

Located at Redfern, there is a Swedish restaurant that lives up to its medieval theme; too real, you’ll think Thor might pop up on a seat beside you. They have dry age meats, roast bone marrow, grilled rainbow trout, and beverages served in a horn.

Their shots are served from Thor’s hammer, and their cocktails are inspired by Viking folklore. It would be best if you didn’t start your Viking feast without a shot of their famous mead.

  • Join The Hunter Valley Wine And Cheese Tasting Tour

Hunter Valley is Australia’s oldest wine-producing region, with the first vines being planted in the 1800s. The region is famous for its Chardonnay, Shiraz, and Verdelho.

The tour includes wine tasting with delectable cheeses to pair from several boutique wineries in the area. You’ll learn to explore the subtleties of wine and how to taste wine to appreciate its character in the best way. And a lot of travelers and tourists who participated in the tour get a different appreciation of wine after and bring home a vast knowledge they could share with others.

Also, part of the tour is a stop at Hunter Valley chocolate factory to try the best hand-processed chocolate molded in various fun shapes.

  • Try The Best Tiger Pie

In Sydney’s CBD along George St., you’ll find a cafe previously visited by Frank Sinatra, Sir Elton John, and Prince Harry. They went there to try the famous tiger pie. A beef pie generously topped with mashed potatoes and peas ladled with thick, rich brown gravy.

The iconic meat pie was named after its founder, who got frustrated after failing to find a good late-night snack, thus the birth of the tiger pie.

  • Indulge In The Best Lamingtons

Lamingtons are synonymous with Australia like kangaroo is. It’s a widely-known Australian cake, primarily butter cake coated with chocolate sauce and dipped in coconut shavings.

A bakery in Riley St., Woolloomooloo, sells an elevated version of lamington that uses free-range eggs. The cake is also soaked in panna cotta and filled with berry compote in the middle for a more indulgent treat.

  •  Make Your Own Gin

A distillery in Dunning Avenue, Rosebery is Australia’s most highly awarded distillery that crafts spirits and lets visitors taste a variety of spirits in test tubes paired with the best food like cured meats, freshly baked pieces of bread, and fresh oysters.

Visitors can also try making their own spirits spiked with different flavors like chili, herbs, and fruits. Visitors can have their custom spirits bottled with a special label to bring home as a souvenir.

Wrapping Up

When traveling, each person aims to satisfy a particular need. So, whether you want to immerse yourself in culture and arts, see the sights or do a food crawl, it’s really up to you. Whatever your heart desires, Sydney has all of those and then some.

But, trying out the various food selections in Sydney can certainly be a great way to explore and experience its rich culture and vibrant city life.
