How to Use a Travel Coffee Maker

  • August 2, 2021

Just because you are traveling doesn’t mean that you need to miss out on a delicious cup of coffee. You will be able to use a lightweight travel coffee maker to craft a tasty brew on the go. While these can seem intimidating, they will be easy to use. There are a few types of portable coffee makers that can use. Here is how each of them works.

Pump Model

This is a manual model, which will require you to do a little work yourself. In this case, you’ll need to remove the filter basket. Then, add the coffee grounds into the scoop. Next, you’ll need to tamp it down and screw on the filter tightly. Put boiling water into the tank.

Once the coffee has been added, it’s time to make the espresso. As you do this, you’ll need to use a slow, consistent pumping speed. As you are doing this, the pressure will be building, allowing you to extract the coffee. It should start to come out of the bottom of the coffee maker. Keep pumping until all your coffee has been extracted.

French Press

One of the oldest ways of preparing coffee is using the French press technique. There are a few ways you can do this, depending on the type of machine you have. You will need to prepare the coffee. In some cases, you will need to put them in a filter. Then, add the boiling water and stir the grounds. Give the mixture a few minutes to steep.

When the coffee is ready, push down on the plunger. Make sure that you are applying steady pressure. In some models, this will trap the grounds at the bottom of the coffee maker. At other times, it will force the water through the filter.

Drip Method

If you are looking for an easy way of making coffee, you might want to consider using the drip method. In this case, you will need to add the coffee to the filter. Then, you will need to slowly pour hot water over the coffee. Make sure that you are hitting every part of the grounds. When you are finished, you’ll be able to discard the grounds, wash the filter, and enjoy the coffee.

Cold Brew

Finally, cold brew has become increasingly popular in the coffee world. This uses cold water rather than hot water. On the downside, it will take longer to extract. It will usually take around 12 hours for you to prepare a cup of coffee.

To make this kind of coffee, you will need to put the coffee grounds into the mesh. Then, you’ll need to add the water.  With this method, you’ll need to use a lot of water, compared to an ordinary cup of coffee. Depending on your taste, this could be up to a liter. Then, you’ll need to let the machine sit. Over time, the water will work its way past the grounds and through the fine mesh. It will then be collected in the cup at the bottom.

An Electric Coffee Maker

These are the easiest methods to use. Often, they will operate in the same way as a regular coffee machine. All you need to do is adjust the settings and press the start button. However, you will need to make sure that there is a reliable source of power. To make things easier, most of these devices will come with a power adapter.

Conclusion

The next time you are planning a trip, you can purchase a travel coffee maker. These are light and compact, with many of them able to slip into a backpack. Hopefully, you now have a better idea of how you can work them. If you need more help, check out this useful comparison of the most popular travel coffee makers.
