4 Stress-Free Ways to Escape the City & Recharge Your Soul

  • February 16, 2021
  • Jules

One of the biggest trends that came out of 2020 was the temporary flight from the city, and a collective retreat into less busy and bustling locales. It’s quite easy to trace how this trend happened and what’s driving it. The pandemic meant people had to be indoors all the time for safety, and many people realized that they didn’t want to live in a city packed with people at a time where being in crowded places was a health risk.

What keeps people in the city is being close to work so they don’t have to deal with things like heavy traffic and long commutes. As more companies became work-from-home full time, people no longer felt tethered to where they live. Technology allowed them to work from just about everywhere, which drove people to look for temporary accommodation outside of the big city. Many small town, rural and countryside real estate markets reported a surge in long-term rentals, and this shows no signs of slowing down in 2021.

When it gets cold, we escape to warmer places, so why not escape the crazy city, and the stress of traffic, crowds, loud car horns and noisy neighbors? Even the biggest city slicker needs to get away from everything from time to time. The great thing is if your company is working from home, and you have a good internet connection, you’ll still be able to do your job and keep up with what’s happening in the world.

Here are a few great ways to get away from the city temporarily and have a nice break.

Go to a Luxury Estate

One of the best and safest ways to travel right now is to go into a self-contained estate or destination where all the activities, amenities and facilities don’t require you to leave the premises. This is why it’s a great idea to escape to a large estate. According to Keyah Grande, a destination which offers luxury vacation rentals in Pagosa Springs, Colorado, “escaping to an estate is an incredibly powerful way to refresh and rejuvenate. Our estate offers many onsite activities like horseback rides, snowmobile tours, four wheeling tours, chuckwagon dinners, and on-site fishing” You can go somewhere that allows you to get in touch with nature, and spend quality time with your loved ones in quiet and peaceful luxury.

Get a Cabin

When you escape the big city, the immediate benefit is that there’s more space and things like greenery which are instantly great for your health. This is why many people chose to escape to cabins. If the idea of being alone, with a warm fire and some hot chocolate sounds appealing to you, this would be a great escape. A cabin doesn’t have to be fully off-the-grid. These days many of them are equipped with internet connections so you can have access to Netflix, YouTube and whatever entertainment you need. A weekend away in calm and quiet surroundings will do you a lot of good!

Go Camping

Nothing says getting away from the city like packing up tents, sleeping bags and gathering around a fire with hot chocolate and s’mores. Without having to drive hours out of your city, you can go to a camping site with a small group of people and just rest and relax. You get the amazing experience of sleeping underneath the stars, hearing the birds from underneath the trees and fresh morning air. If you don’t like the pure version of camping, there’s always glamping. This is where you get the pleasures of camping with the more luxurious things you’d get at a hotel.

A Drive Out

A drive out of the city for a few hours may not be a month away in the woods, but it’s still an effective way to take a short pause. Fuel up your car and go a couple hours out to your nearest small town. Spend time enjoying the amenities. Go shopping for souvenirs, have a great meal at the favorite local eatery and enjoy being an out-of-towner for a few hours. There’s something truly therapeutic about having your windows open and the wind running through your hair with your favorite drive road trip playlist blaring. You’ll return to the city with a new lease on life and new energy and creativity.

Sometimes we just need to get away, and if we can’t hop on planes and leave the country, there are still other ways to rest and recharge. Whether you do this for an extended stay or just a weekend away, don’t underestimate the power of being away from your usual surroundings. It’s one of the healthiest things you can do.
