Orlando – Without the Kids

  • February 29, 2012

It may be the theme park capital of the USA, but Orlando has plenty to offer grown-up visitors on cheap Orlando holidays. If you think you’re too old for the Wizarding World of Harry Potter or Disney’s Magic Kingdom, maybe you’ll be better served by the city’s clubs, bars and music venues. Or for a more relaxing time, there’s all manner of spas, museums, theatres and shopping centres.

Fans of jazz and the blues should not pass up the chance to visit BB King’s Restaurant and Blues Club on International Drive. With an authentic Memphis-style BBQ on the menu and some of the South’s best artists on stage, it’s a great place to relax in fine company. Stand-up comedy can be found at the Orlando Improv, the comedy club chain that launched the careers of David Spade, Bette Midler, Robin Williams and many more talents.

If you’d rather just hit the bars, you’re in luck: Orlando’s got a lot of them. Enjoy a muddled martini on the outside terrace of the Monkey Bar; sample some of the 70 plus wines while taking in a lakeside view at the Eola Wine Company, play pool at the homely Burton’s Bar or get glam at the Vegas-inspired Stardust Lounge.

Of course, you’re going to need some activities during the day. For art and culture, try the Orange County History Center, the Charles Hosmer Morse Museum of American Art or the Museum of Arts and Sciences, set within a gorgeous 90-acre park.

Alternatively, you might like to spend a bright sunny day on a golf course – in Orlando, you’ve got more than 170 to choose from. The Southern Dunes, Champions Gate and Shingle Creek clubs are some of the most popular.
