The Florida Keys is the perfect place for a Florida Vacation. The Miami to Key West drive is one of the most beautiful drives in America!
Must do stops along the Florida Keys include Key Largo, Islamorada, Marathon, Bahia Honda and Key West.
If you are planning to make a trip, here is some more information on the best places to stop along the way!
Key Largo
The first place you will stop from Miami is Key Largo.
People don’t often think to stop in Key Largo but we would advise you to as there are so many awesome things to do in Key Largo to keep you occupied during your time in the Florida Keys!
John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park has two of the most beautiful beaches in Key Largo: Far Beach and Cannon Beach.
As most people head straight to Key West these beaches are largely deserted and are accessible by private yacht charters. Check out somersetyachtcharters.com
If you want a relaxed holiday with peace and quiet – this is the place for you!
Islamorada
Islamorada is a fan favourite of families in the Florida Keys.
Why? Islamorada is home to one of the most fun activities ever – giant tarpon feeding!
There are also very beautiful beaches to explore in Islamorada including the stunning Anne Beach which has a boardwalk and picnic tables to lunch on.
Marathon
Make sure you make a stop at Marathon.
If for nothing else, there is an amazing turtle hospital in Marathon that does an absolutely incredible job of rehabilitating turtles in the Florida Keys.
After seeing the beautiful turtles you might like to treat yourself to a delicious slice of Key Lime Pie – one of the most iconic dishes in the Florida Keys.
More adventurous travelers and seafood lovers might like to also try Conch (pronounced “Konk”) – another iconic food from the Keys. It is an acquired taste as it is known to have a rubbery texture.
Bahia Honda
If you are looking for picturesque blue beaches, Bahia Honda is the best place to go. The water at this beach is crystal clear and offers some of the very best snorkeling in the Keys!
Don’t forget to take a stroll to the middle of Bahia Honda bridge. This bridge is partially destroyed (you can only walk to the middle of the bridge) but the views from there are absolutely spectacular!
Camping is a good option at Bahia Honda as the State Park offers some of the best camping in the keys with direct water front camping options available.
Key West
Key West is by far the most popular option in the Florida Keys. Key West is also world-famous for its fishing. Check out Captain Experiences for over 60 chartered fishing experiences with licensed and insured guides.
Many people make a weekend trip from Miami and bypass the other towns in the Keys in favor of Key West as there are so many awesome activities.
Key West is an expensive place to travel. If you would like to keep costs down, you can check out the all the free things to do in Key West.
Don’t miss Ernest Hemingway’s House, The Butterfly Garden and the iconic Mile 0 marker while in Key West.
