Reasons why you should use a VPN while traveling

Traveling is at all rage lately. It has never been so cheap and easy to go abroad for a holiday. However, modern traveling doesn’t mean turning off your phone or getting off the web; the technology gives us the comfort that we don’t want to drop during vacation. But at the same time, we all know that the Internet is no safe place. So the question is how to stay safe online when you are in a country that you don’t know? The answer to this question is to use a VPN, and here is why.

What VPN stands for?

VPN is an acronym for Virtual Private Network. It is a tool that helps you extend your private network across a public one. In other words, it enables you to access public networks safely by making the information you send out and receive private. It encrypts your data so that others cannot track your online movements, making your passwords, personal data, and Internet history secure. There are many apps offering VPN services online. Before you decide which one to choose, make sure to read reviews, like Nord VPN Review, from trusted sites. Now, let’s talk about the reasons why you should use a VPN while traveling.

Making sure your devices are safe

Hackers lookout for vulnerable devices and the easiest way for them to penetrate your phone or laptop is when you are connected to a public Wi-fi. An Internet that you use at airports, cafes, and restaurants is not very well protected. Any device connected using a hot spot is vulnerable. Please take a moment to remember how much information your phone has on you, and a more skilled hacker can probably even steal your identity. Fortunately, if you use a VPN during holidays, you ensure the safety of all your devices, and you can browse without worries.

Improving the speed of your Internet connection

Another use of a VPN is to increase the speed of your Internet connection. It is possible with a VPN bypassing some of the traffic of the local Internet Service Provider. This way, you will be able to access sites that are very Internet speed-sensitive, like youtube or Skype. This should make it far more comfortable to surf the web while in a hotel or other crowded places.

Accessing blocked sites

There are countries in the world that are censoring certain popular websites. States like China, the Arab Emirates, or Vietnam try to prevent access to websites like Facebook or Gmail, and many more others. The reasons for this kind of restriction vary between countries. Fortunately, if you have a VPN, you will be able to use those sites and check your e-mail account without frustrations. Also, you will be able to bypass a block used by Netflix that prevents you from viewing films if you are not in the country for which they are dedicated.

Getting better traveling offers

It is no news that airlines and car rentals use geo-location on their websites and increase the prices based on this type of data. If you check the price of a flight a few times a day, it will increase, as they know you are interested, the same happens for car rentals. So if you want to avoid wasting money on the same service you can get cheaper, you need to use a VPN. It will prevent the sites from knowing your location; in fact, they will change your online location so often, the websites won’t be able to tell where you are. But even if you are using VPN, please remember to erase the cookies and history of your browser before you try to book a flight or rent a car.

Avoid getting your account frozen

Banking systems preventing account theft are continually checking your IP adress. So if you access your bank account from home and then the next day from the other side of the globe, you can get your access denied and account frozen. This also happens very frequently if you are using Paypal, which has one of the most restrictive filters. When you travel, this could cause real trouble, as with your account frozen, you may have difficulties with paying for your stay or flight back, not to mention food. You can avoid all that if you use a VPN, of course.

VPNs are not able to solve all your Internet problems abroad, but it can, for sure lower the number of them. You want to reduce the level of stress during vacation and the risk associated with accessing the web in a different part of the world. Also, make sure a VPN that suits your particular needs. There are many different options and specializations when it comes to such services. If you want your trip to be a trouble-free tech one, remember to put a VPN on your checklist.
