How to Plan Your Next Trip to Denmark

  • October 4, 2019

Aiming to go on a holiday in Denmark? The key to a great experience is to have a good plan to maximize your stay and make things as efficient as possible. After all, there’s so much to do and see in this beautiful Scandinavian country that it would be a shame to miss out on the most important experiences. This guide will lay out the most important aspects of trip planning to Denmark.

  1. Pin down your travel dates. If your travel dates are flexible, aim to schedule it on a week where something significant might happen in Denmark. For example, if you are planning a March or April trip then you might want to look into visiting during Easter, which coincides with the opening of the Tivoli amusement park in Copenhagen.

  2. Create a day by day itinerary complete with time estimates. Making the most of your Denmark trip will mean accounting for every hour of your stay – in a healthy and balanced way! Ensure ample travel time to and from destinations so you are not rushing to complete everything in your list. Research how long it takes from one place to another, and back to your hotel so you have an idea of how many activities to schedule per day. Keep it manageable and always leave a little wiggle room for leisure!

  3. Prioritize your sightseeing. There’s so much to see and do in Denmark, but if you are there for only a few days then you need to think carefully about which activities to do. Check out this list of the best things to do in Denmark and choose the ones that will be interesting to 1) as many people in your group as possible (to maximize the utility value of the activity), and 2) special activities that any one in your group really wants to see and everyone is willing to take time out for.

  4. Craft a budget as you plan your itinerary. It’s best to have an idea of how much each activity will cost, and then allocate the corresponding amount for it. An even better approach is to research how much the fare will be, and add that to the allocation. If your activity falls near a meal time, research a must-eat place nearby to hit two birds with one stone (sightseeing activity + gastronomical experience) and factor that in your budget.

  5. Make a plan of what you want to buy and bring home. Travels often include shopping, so creating a list of stuff that you want to bring home will help organize your trip further. Make a list of the most popular packaged foods to bring home from Denmark and research where they are best or cheapest to purchase. If you’re bringing home perishable items, it’s best to buy them right before you leave. Bulky things can be arranged for shipment to your home address, if you don’t want to be bothered with having to lug it around or to the airport.

These five tips will do a lot to help make things a lot easier, organized, and on-point when you visit Denmark. While nailing down the little details is definitely important, it’s also good to be open to some changes in your plans. When serendipity strikes, you might want to go with it if it seems like it’ll make your Scandinavian memories a whole lot sweeter!
