Throw Out Those Obstacles: Your 2019 Travel Plans

  • August 27, 2019
  • admin

We’re already well into the second half of the calendar year, but that’s no reason you can’t still check off an item or two from your 2019 travel bucket list. From beach-bod destinations and tower peaks to ancient ruins, you still have plenty of time to take advantage of your pipedream travel plans. Here are some ideas to kick-start your dream vacation.

Go It Alone

Don’t let friends deter your ambition. Sure, a friendly face and company are nice on a long flight, but if your friend or friends are waffling over time off work, expenditures and unrealistic travel fears, you should just go it alone. Of course, don’t throw caution to the wind, but, then again, solo travel often stretches you in far more ways than one.

First, you must be outgoing. Why? You’re alone, so who else will push you toward that stand-up paddleboard, that scuba gear or that Bungee jump? You also have more freedom as a solo traveler. See what you want to see, eat where you wish and check off the sights, sounds and tastes that speak most to you.

Plan What You Want

There are hundreds of ways to travel, and it all depends on what you want. Are you interested in a rugged adventure? Then consider bikepacking, or backpacking by bike. Ultimately, this will get you off the roads and on wilderness trails, old dirt roads and throw mountain passes. Of course, there is a lot of equipment involved, so take a look at a beginner guide before you commit.

Then again, maybe comfort travel is your priority. If that’s the case, consider a cruise and experience the luxury of a hotel and the rugged beauty of Alaska all from the comfort of a giant cruise ship. Whether you take a seven- or 12-day trip, Alaskan cruise prices are likely much lower than you might think.

So, what if mountain bike adventures are overly rugged, but cruises are a little too cushy? In these cases, consider an adventure travel package. RIE Adventures offers guided packages meant for the outdoor experience without all the logistics. Hike the coast of Portugal, cycle through Vietnam, or backpack in Aravaipa Canyon. REI Adventures helps you undertake a new adventure without the stress.

Research Your Destination

No matter where or how you travel, be informed about your destination. The U.S. Department of State offers a comprehensive list of countries and travel warnings broken up into four threat levels, the fourth being a hard no on the country as a travel destination. Considered threats include possible terrorist attacks, infectious deceases such as Ebola or the likelihood of kidnapping.

Additionally, you may also want to check the website of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in case vaccinations are recommended for your destination. If you’re dead set on a country that has considerable travel risks, purchase travel insurance in case of emergencies.

Embarking on an Adventure of a Lifetime

First, brush off anyone who might hold you back, including friends or family who might fear the commitment of your proposed travel plans. Next, pick the type of travel that interests you. Whether it’s a cruise, rugged self-made adventure or a guided outdoor expedition, a world of wonders awaits you.

Lastly, check the travel warnings (if there any). Most countries are extremely safe, but it’s best you’re informed before embarking. Once your tickets are purchased, it’s time you book some hotels, pack your bags and let your friends watch you enviously as you embark on an adventure of a lifetime.
