3 Hiker-Friendly Cities That You Should Visit (Or Live In)

  • October 29, 2018
  • admin

Hiking is such a rewarding activity. It energizes the body through the physical exertion that it generously offers. It also affords you a true date with Mother Nature. When on the trail, all that you see will be the lush greens of the countryside, and all that you hear will be the high-pitched chirps of birds flying around.

America has a lot of hiker-friendly cities if you just know where to look. But there really is no need for that now, because here we’ve identified three American cities that a true hiker like you will easily fall in love with. Read on to know what these cities are.

Boise, Idaho

They don’t call it the City of Trees for nothing! Boise is home to hundreds of miles of hiking trails, where stressed office workers can really unwind in the company of Mother Nature. One of the more well-known spots is the Ridge to Rivers system. This trail system is kept alive by monetary contributions from thousands of community members, and it currently has a 10-year management plan. What makes this system unique is the fact that pets are allowed on it. They can even go unleashed some areas. The R2R management is also a bit lenient when it comes to the use of electric bikes and motorized toys, at least in some designated spots.

There are those who like hiking in hot weather but for those who don’t, Boise also has an icy offer. You only have to go 16 miles from downtown Boise and you will already be in Bogus Basin Ski Area that offers up to 1,800 vertical feet of ski trail. This place also has more than ten lift choices.

Durango, Colorado

Denver is surely not the only interesting city in Colorado. If you really are interested in hiking and other outdoor adventure, the small city of Durango is the place that you should not miss when you are on this side of the country. It is home to the Animas Mountain Trail that leads hikers to a breathtaking view of the Animas Valley. This trail is relatively short, and you can expect to finish it during your lunch break.

If you are up for a longer walk, the local favorite Perins Peak might just be what you are looking for. This trail stretches up to 7 miles, and it winds through the cliffs that Durango is known for, leading the hiker to a picturesque view of the city.

Asheville, North Carolina

Asheville in North Carolina is surely more than just a picturesque modern city that is bathed in bright lights during the night. It is home to 330 miles of trails that provide exciting adventures and Instagram-worthy views. Visitors and residents of this city have easy access to the Pisgah and Nantahala National Forests. For those who want more of an adrenaline rush, this area also boasts the Blue Ridge Mountains. These may look timid and tame in pictures, but the adventures along their heavily forested slopes are truly worthwhile.
