  • September 26, 2011

Do you remember going camping as a child; stuck in a soggy field with only a flimsy plastic tent over your head and no amenities for at least ten miles?! You’ll be pleased to know that camping has moved on big-time with many chic boutique camping options now available across the world. And with the opportunity to get back to nature, experience a more authentic travel adventure and possibly save some money too, consider a camping break next time;

Three Cliffs Bay, Gower, South Wales, UK was the first area to be designated “An Area of Natural Beauty”, in Britain. This area has beautiful beaches and is especially popular with surfers. The first human fossil was found in this area, and Gower is also the location of the standing stones of the Bronze Age. A wonderful area for the beach lovers and photographers alike.

Wadi el Gamal Nature Reserve on the Red Sea Coast in Egypt. Enjoy beautiful vistas of waterless mountains, mangroves, beaches and coral reefs. Take a camel trip or a four wheeled drive to see the mountains. The scenery is amazing and a surprising amount of wildlife can be seen.

Mombo Camp in the Moremi Game Reserve in Botswana. The main attraction is the wild game, which includes giraffe, zebra, wildebeest, lions, leopards, and cheetahs. See these creatures from your own verandah or take a game drive which are said to be the most magnificent in Africa.

Cottar’s 1920 Mara Safari Camp, Kenya, takes you back to the 1920’s safari days. Stay in wonderful 1920’s tents that offer all the amenities. Wonderful wild life viewing day and night.

Camping Alpe di Siusi in Veneto Dolomites in Italy is surrounded by deep alpine forests, the mighty Dolomites mountains rising up and some 200 miles of walking and trekking trails which are all marked for visitors. For those less energetic the Seiser Alm cable car can also be taken for a birds eye view over the stunning scenery below.

Longitude 131, Northern Territory Australia. Experience the harsh environment of the Australian outback with most of the comforts of home. Attractions include tours to Walpa Gorge, Ayers Rock, and the Olgas, in the outback. Popular with photographers of all levels.

Tartaruga Camp, Zante, Greece offers possibly the best view in all of Greece with camp pitches placed on stepped terraces and surrounded by olive groves which all offers a high degree of privacy. There is also a pebble beach with clear turquoise waters and boats for hire. Travellers can also visit the breeding places of the loggerhead turtles, explore the Blue Caves in the north of Zante and also explore Tragaki village which has quaint streets filled with old architecture.

Otter Creek Tents, Maharashtra, India, situated along the banks of this picturesque creek. Turtles and great scenery await. Cooks are available on site or you can cook for yourself. The Anjuna flea market is nearby for picking up some rare and exciting items.

El Capitan Canyon, California, USA. Situated between the Pacific and Santa Yenz Mountains, this area is a wonder for photographers and hikers alike. Many activities are available such as Botanical hikes and scuba diving. There are numerous California vineyards within driving distance that offer wine tasting for the wine lover.
