Tips for the Best Experiences and Photos in the Maya Riviera

  • July 21, 2015
  • admin

There are many interesting and photogenic places to see in Mexico’s Riviera Maya. This stretch of land goes from Cancun to Tulum in the Yucatan peninsula. This is a wonderland of tropical forests, colorless water, fluffy sanded beaches and of course, Mayan ruins. There’s more than enough to see and experience.

The Mayan Riviera is one of the hottest travel destinations which means plenty of people will start coming in the future. Right now, besides Cancun, down to Tulum is uncluttered and accessible. This also means that you can do your sightseeing and photographing without getting anyone else in your shots. See what ruins and historical sites such as pyramids and a huge barrier reef are available for you to see and take photos.

One of the places you’ll want to see in the Riviera Maya is Akumal. This is the ultimate place to snorkel where you’ll see sea turtles. If you bring a waterproof camera you can take up close picture of them right in the water. Out further you’ll experience the reef and all the tropical fish that make it home. You can easily get a ride out there and snorkel equipment from vendors. And lastly, if you like fishing as much a photographing, you can fish and if you catch anything, they’ll cook it for you.

Another thing that will bring great photos and experiences are cenotes. These are natural formations such as sinkholes that can be explored. You can get there by wading in the water, swimming there, snorkeling or cave diving, if you’re very adventurous. When you’re in the Maya Riviera you’ll see locals being just that. They dive into the water from what looks like simple holes in the ground.

What most people already have knowledge of before they travel to Maya Riviera is the famous Chichen Itza. It is definitely a must see and an easy place to get a tour. Depending on what time of year you go it may be crowded, but that’s just because it’s a must see. It is the Yucatan’s biggest draw. Although it can no longer be climbed, you can take great photos of it and the other archealogical sites in the same area. These ruins are unique and have interesting stories attached to them. Make sure you take a guided tour to learn the most about them.

Other ruins to visit and take photos of are Coba and the ones in Tulum. Coba is in the middle of the rain forest and has a climable pyramid. The ruins in Tulum are more accessible, in fact right on the beach. You’ll likely start your Maya Riviera journey in Cancun and move south to Tulum. In my opinion, you’ve saved the best for last.

Of course, there’s much more to see in Maya Riviera but if you do the things mentioned here you’ll have a great experience and go back home with many incredible photographs. And if you stay at one of the all inclusive resorts riviera maya they can help guide you beyond the travel tips mentioned here. Have a good time!
