When the weather starts to get warmer, we all want to be where it’s warmest. Though some of us want temperatures to be as hot as well can take them, others are happy to settle for more tame. The heat on the French Riviera might not be the highest in the world, but it’s still ideal for anyone who wants to spend some time on the beach. With the sun shining, you can enjoy some authentic French cuisine, explore a new town, and even set out on a yacht. But there are lots of choices for where to go on the Cote d’Azur. Here are some of the best towns to visit during the summer months.
Nice
Nice receives plenty of sunshine all year round, so it’s the perfect place for a summer getaway. Everyone will find something for them in this eclectic city whether they’re young or old. If you’re enjoying a family holiday or backpacking around Europe, you’ll find a spot in Nice that will become your favourite. It’s easy to find comfortable accommodation on websites, whether you want to stay in the Oldtown or somewhere more contemporary. If you love exploring a town’s culture, there’s a magnificent art scene. And the nightlife is thriving for night owls who want to stay out late.
Cannes
It’s famous for its international film festival, but there’s more to Cannes than the short period each year when it becomes buzzing with celebrities. This beautiful historic town is full of activity, from the designer shopping to the yachts off the shore. Although Cannes is known for being affluent, and, therefore, expensive, you can find value places to stay, eat and drink too. While you’re there, go for a stroll, visit the beach, or go to Forville Market to pick up some local produce. You can also do some activities in the sea, from kayaking and canoeing to windsurfing.
Saint Tropez
Saint Tropez is another Riviera town known for its well-to-do visitors and residents. It’s long been a favourite resort of all types of people, from artists to actors. People flock to the town from all over the world, hoping to bask in its rays. You’ll love the beautiful location on a rocky and wooded peninsula with some outstanding views. The best way to get around is on foot, but the best beaches are several miles away. If your hotel doesn’t run a shuttle bus, hire a bike or scooter to get you there.
Monaco
Monaco might not be in France, but it’s still on the French Riviera, sandwiched between two parts of the country. Known for its Grand Prix, gambling and lots of money, this small principality is an interesting place to see. When you’re not in the casino, you could visit the oceanographic museum, or take a walk around the Jardin Exotique.
There’s plenty more to see on the French Riviera, apart from these highlights. If you make one place your base, such as Nice, there are many day trips you can take from there.
