The island of Lanzarote is one of the most exotic Canary Islands. Located off the coast of Morocco in the Atlantic Ocean, the island is known for its Martian landscape.

Explore the Timanfaya National Park.

There are many attractions in Lanzarote. Spend a day exploring the Timanfaya National Park, a large park that was formed by several volcano eruptions. The lower part of the park can be explored on camel back.

When exploring the park, do not miss the natural attractions of the park, ranging from eruptions of boiling water to Martian landscapes of red sands. At the top of the park there is a large restaurant known for its views. The restaurant serves fish and meat that is grilled on top of a natural opening, and is heated by geothermal heat.

Relax on a beach.

The island has many beaches. Explore the many beaches on the Teguise coast and do not miss the black, volcanic beaches that can be found in some parts of the island.

The Playa de las Cucharas is one of the most famous beaches. This beach has the shape of a spoon and is known for its transparent waters and spectacular views.

Playa Blanca, located on the southern tip of the island, used to be a fishing village. Now it is one of the island’s most visited resorts. The Papagayo beaches are located in the area. For a more activity-filled beach, head to Puerto del Carmen, an area filled with bars and restaurants that has several beaches with diving centers and jet skis available for rent.

Many of the beaches offer a wide range of activities. There are beaches ideal for surfers and windsurfers, and equipment can be rented at affordable prices. Famara, La Santa and San Juan beaches are some of the most popular spots for surfers.

Visit the cities and villages.

Lanzarote is known for its traditions. There are many towns and villages around the island, such as Yaiza, known for its church. Spend a morning exploring Jameos del Agua, a set of caves with a rare underwater lake that have been transformed into a cultural center designed by one of the island’s most famous architects, Cesar Manrique.

Enjoy traditional food in one of the many coastal towns. The island is known for its delicious cuisine, and one of its stellar dishes are Papas arrugadas, jacket potatoes served with two types of sauce, a green sauce and a spicy, mojo picón sauce.

If you want museums dedicated to the island’s history and volcanic eruptions, Arrecife is the place to be. The island’s main art museum is located inside the San José Castle and the Archaeological Museum is located inside the ancient San Gabriel Castle. Do not miss El Charco de San Ginés, a saltwater lagoon surrounded by traditional fishermen’s houses located in the city center.
