Skiing in Italy

With the Winter Olympics fresh in our minds, nothing seems more tempting right now than packing a ski jacket and heading off to the mountains. Although it may seem like spring is just around the corner, there are still a good two months of skiing to be had in Europe, and if costs worry you, the possibility of booking some of the winter villas in Italy for your skiing trip to one of Europe’s best ski destinations will ensure you have plenty of pennies left for equipment. We’ve picked out three of the best places to choose from in this article.

For Experts: For those looking to ski on difficult slopes and at high altitudes, Italy does have a range of alternatives available which guarantee snow on your trip. Cervinia is one such place, located in Lombardy and not too far from the Swiss border; the high altitude slopes are perfect for experienced skiers and of course ensure that there is plenty of snow around late into the season, including at Easter.

For Fun: There is often much more to consider when choosing a good place to ski than just the pistes themselves. For some, the accommodation and the atmosphere of the town are every bit as important. If you are looking for somewhere to let your hair down after a full day skiing, then Livigno, near the Austrian border, is the perfect place. Although remote, it is a duty-free resort, and as a result is one of the cheapest locations to ski in Italy; full of entertaining bars and many reasonably priced restaurants.

For Everybody: For those who do not wish to ski every day, it is important to have a mixture of activities on offer on a ski holiday. The Alpine town of Courmayeur, also located close to the Swiss border, and not too far from Chamonix, has something for everyone, whether you are looking for some of the best off-piste skiing in the world, or somewhere to tuck into some delicious Italian cuisine. Courmayeur has it all, from a range of interesting shops, to some of the best restaurants in the region and all topped off with the longest off-piste run in the world.
