Packing for a weekend away

  • May 29, 2013

When you’re planning a weekend away the first thing on your mind isn’t usually what you need to pack. We’re all able to relate however, to the feeling of leaving something behind in a rush and regretting it dearly upon arrival. Here’s a list of what people often forget and what’s worth considering before making your journey.

1. Swimwear & Towel

Packing swimwear and a towel is an essential step of any trip preparation. Whether you’re off to a spa or to the beach, these are two of the most forgotten items when packing a suitcase. When packing the towel try and find something that’s large enough to be of use but small enough so that it doesn’t compromise the space in your case.

2. Toiletries

Toiletries are going to help you stay fresh on your trip. Even if you’re headed out to a hotel, sometimes it’s better to take your own things than rely on those little bottles of shampoo. My toothbrush and toothpaste are always number one and two on my list as they’re the things that a hotel is least likely to provide.

3. Documentation

Don’t forget your documents. It’s very easy to get distracted when deciding what to put in your luggage, but the importance of your trip itinerary and booking details can’t be underestimated. You don’t want to end up wandering around your destination looking for your hotel for hours without directions.

4. Appropriate clothing

This is an important step. Many trips involve activities that might require you to take the appropriate clothing – especially in the UK, like waterproofs for sailing or shoes with grip for rock climbing. Visit Wales outline some great options like this if you’re looking for a cheap weekend break in the UK and you can take a good look at what the activities involve before deciding what to pack.

5. Entertainment

Not every trip is packed with fun and excitement all day every day and, in the UK especially, the weather can be unreliable. Look into taking some light entertainment with you for long journeys and rainy days. One or two good books are usually enough to keep your mind occupied if you’re only going away for a couple of days.

6. Camera

You can’t always remember every detail of a holiday, but if you pack a camera you can, at least, take some snaps of your favourite places to bring the trip to life when you get home. Don’t spend too much time getting snap-happy and taking pictures though, or you’ll miss out on the experience itself.
